[edit] Common Problems

Most problems arise when you first get started with Shopfitter 4, once you become familiar with it we're sure you'll find the system easy to use.

Error on startup

Similar to - 'The application failed to initialise properly (0xc0000135). Click on ok to terminate the application.'

Most error messages will be related to .NET Framework v2 - This means that you need to update your computer to a newer version of Microsoft's .NET Framework software. It can take a while to go through the Windows Update process for this so we've put the update on our server to make it easier. Simply click download .NET Framework V2 then install it on your computer. When you relaunch Shopfitter 4 it should start up correctly.

Shopfitter 4 and Windows Vista

To get Shopfitter 4 working with Vista you will need to turn off User Account Control. To do this go into the Control Panel and select User Accounts. Click to Turn User Account Control off. When prompted restart the PC for the changes to take effect.

Files vanishing from the shop Web folder - how to upload other files (pdfs etc) with shopfitter

When you publish your shop all the necessary files are created in your shop web folder.

C:\Program Files\ShopFitter\Shopfitter 4\shops\YOUR SHOP NAME\web

While publishing shopfitter will delete all the previous loose files in this folder - so if you have added any file directly into this folder they will be deleted. If you want to add files into this folder to be uploaded with the rest of the shop you must put them into a folder - then they will not be deleted.

For example if you want to have some pdf files available as links in your shop add them into a folder called pdf inside the web folder and then link to these pdf/file.pdf and they will be uploaded with the rest of the shop.

Text vanishing after resizing Shopfitter

There is a bug in the current version of SF4 - if you enter any information and then resize the shopfitter application (e.g. to fit full screen) the updated text disappears.

To stop this press the save button - bottom right (or the top left floppy disk symbol) before resizing the screen, or work with SF4 using full screen size - I find this easier especially as the shop gets bigger!.

After clicking the Checkout or Make Payment button I get an error - "This shop is temporarily available"

The secure order server doesn't recognise your shop because the Shopfitter ID hasn't been entered in the Order Viewer tab in Shopfitter 4 in the box at the top of the screen. To resolve the issue you need to add your Shopfitter ID, if you don't have one then register with the order server.

Trouble using the visual designer to edit info pages and hotspot areas

The new visual designer has to be in edit mode to allow you to edit the page, and this can sometimes be tricky to do.

Make the designer page full screen and click once on any text in the window – you should get white boxes at the corners of the ‘editable page’ then double click on the text and you should get a solid hatched border around the ‘page’ and can edit now.

If you cannot get the hatched border – click to the far right of the designer page (in an empty area) to remove the white squares and have another go – I think its something that when you get it to work once you will be ok from then on.

Another option if you are still struggling is to click the binoculars button (search) and type in any text on the page to find – this will go into edit mode and highlight the text searched for – allowing you to now edit the page.

All of the buttons to edit the page have tool tips which pop up to give you more information.

Odd information/options not showing in the cart page

If you use the / in the name of your product it can cause the cart to display incorrectly

e.g. - 'Nike Air Max 90's - White/Black'

Can display as: 'NAM90-001|1|29.99| - 1|29.99|Nike Air Max 90's - White' (showing the product id, quantity, cost etc)

It is best to use another symbol instead:

'Nike Air Max 90's - White-Black'

Another similar problem occurs if you use / in an option choice name

e.g. - small/medium

this can display as 'small'

as above try small-medium instead.

We are working on a solution, but until then the best option would be not to use / in any names or options.

Category button being greyed out

If you add a category inside another category (a sub category) the new category button will stay greyed out so that you cannot add another item into this main category, to fix this double click on the main category to open it in Shopfitter then close it using the close button (bottom right). This will close the main category correctly allowing you to add more items to it.

This has been fixed in the 17th August update.

Greyed out new category & new product buttons when selecting open category in the left shop items window

If you try the add any new items to an open category (open in SF to edit) the new buttons will not enable - you have to close the category before you can add anything to it - this ensures that all new items are added correctly to the category.

Error message: "Conversion from string "" to type decimal is not valid"

This occurs during publishing when there is no tax associated with products that have been entered. To resolve the issue all you need to do is set a default tax in the 'Main' panel - it's located on the right hand side under the title 'Tax Items . Even if you don't need to apply tax you should create a 0% tax.VAT item and then click the 'Set as Default' button.

You should now be able to publish and preview your webshop successfully.
